The recent revival in productivity seems to be driven by weaker growth in hours worked, rather than stronger GDP growth or a widespread AI-related boost. As a result, we think it’s too soon to conclude that this is the start of a sustained structural improvement. That said, the recent gains have increased the chances that the surge we forecast in the 2030s happens earlier than expected.
