Recent job losses in the outsourcing sector have fuelled fears about the negative macro impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on India’s economy. But the services sector as a whole appears to be riding this out, most notably because multinationals have been deepening their capabilities in the country. And stepping back, the adoption of AI more broadly is progressing faster than we had expected, while India is also attracting investment in data centres. This suggests that over the longer term, India could be a net beneficiary from AI, even if the technology does not transform its growth rate.
We will be discussing India's macro and market prospects in the AI economy in an online briefing on Wednesday 26th August (9am BST/1.30pm IST). Register for the event here.
