We expect financial conditions to tighten further this year in major advanced economies reflecting, but also exacerbating, slower economic growth. To monitor levels of stress in the financial system and the ease with which finance can be accessed, we have created standardised measures of financial conditions. Together, they serve as a fairly good real-time coincident indicator of advanced-economy GDP growth.
